"Simply wanting to sell products online is not enough"
The insurance industry has a bright future ahead of it - if it is prepared to change. That is the opinion of Sven Gabor Janszky, Scientific Director of the trend research institute "2b AHEAD Thinktank". Last year he took a close look at the industry's future in a study entitled "Insurers 2020: Customers, Values, Product Opportunities".
EM Journal: Mr. Janszky, you coined the phrase: The insurance industry must tackle its own business model in order not to lose its power over it. It sounds like time is running out for the industry.
Sven Gabor Janszky: Please do not misunderstand me, it would be nonsense to claim that your industry can change totally from one day to the next. Still, I would like to urge that new approaches for the future should be developed even now in manageable pilot projects parallel to the slow decline in traditional business. In this way it will gradually be possible to generate more premium volume than is lost in the established business portfolio. The success of these efforts will be crucial in determining whether you rank among the winners or losers in 2020.
